Back to Uni, giving it my all to win the best flatmate!
After many months off the horse I am back in the big apple, Sheffield. I have just moved into a new house with new housemates. They obviously have heard that I am a food student who loves to cook, mainly cause I wont shut up about. But, I need to SHOW them that I am a food student. So the plan is simple, make them a delicious dinner first night to show off my cooking skills and become the golden child house. The plan seemed easier in my mind, however I ran into some issues.
First issue
I had to try and wow them whilst keeping to my tight budget, Its all well and good if I go and spend 70 quid on luxury ingredients just for me to be eating thoughts and prayers for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week.
Second issue
The cooking space in our kitchen is quite limited. We are unfortunately not living in Casa De Sheff. We are in your bog standard student house. So ideally the dish had to be something that didn't cause a massive mess, as everyone knows the ideal housemate is a tidy housemate.
Third issue
The dish had to be something that seemed impressive when in reality, I wanted it to be something I could quickly make and didn't need too much effort. I could spend all day making an extravagant meal but I didn't have time to do that. I had to unpack, see my friends and have a pint.
But thankfully, I came up with an idea. I decided to do slow roasted chicken thighs. With these thighs I did a Mexican inspired build your own wrap bar. This was perfect, I find slow roasted meat to be ideal. All I did was blend some: seasoning, orange juice and the key ingredient. A chipotle paste. The chipotle paste was so ideal. It carried a lot of the flavour at a very friendly price point. The final product was exceptional. The chicken thighs fell apart perfectly and provided a tender texture and was extremely juicy. The wash up was minimal, I only had to wash my Staub, a couple plates, cutlery and my blender. It couldn't have gone better.
